Makulay ang Buhay

There’s this jingle on TV advertising a vegetable broth cube. The jingle is very catchy and my daughter and I find ourselves humming it every once in a while.

Last night I realized (a little slow in doing so perhaps, like in most things) that the main target of that jingle are relatively poor people who have a very limited budget for food. Instead of consuming malabnaw na instant noodles (which the last time I checked is the staple diet of those who are really hard-pressed), they would just consume sinabawang gulay, mas malasa at may sustansya pa.

land, i also like this song/ad… when this ad came out, i said to myself “finally, somebody talks about the goodness of vegetables.. as in the real ones, not instant!”

I remember my immersion in Tarlac with an Aeta community. All we ate were rice and vegetables (dahon ng katabing puno ng kubo namin) with that ad playing in the background c/o a motolite-powered karaoke.

Really, I thought it was a campaign to encourage kids to eat vegetables.

And the jingle really is catchy.
